Hello, world! I’m Kasia Pudło. I write songs.
I frame making my music the way I want to as my Great Refusal. This concept comes from philosopher Herbert Marcuse’s 1964 book “One-Dimensional Man”, and if you’re like me, you’ve felt exactly what it means in your bones your entire life. Hold on to that feeling.
Here’s a brief and lazy semiotic analysis of my bedroom:
My bedroom signifies self-intimacy and solace.
It signifies clarity and freedom.
When I’m alone in my bedroom, I don’t have a gender, a race, or whatever other template they wanna put on me.
I am me.
It also signifies precarity and the worsening economic conditions for people like me. Artists, thinkers. Punks.
In a world in which garage rock is a luxury, I make bedroom punk.
My punk starts in my bedroom.
Where I can feel-think whatever I think-feel.
Where I am affected by whatever it is that affected me.
Where my sensations tell me something important about what goes on out there.
Where I can write and sing whatever I want.
I refer to punk as personal philosophy and a cultural standpoint. An anarchist standpoint. A dissident standpoint.
Commodity culture can go fuck itself.
I’ll be bringing you some beautiful music soon.
